Overview

The Espiña Research Group is dedicated to overcome some of the most challenging issue0073 in the water environment, making responsible use of original applied research on environmental nanotechnologies. The group develops and applies nanotechnology solutions for the safe and sustainable use of water resources.

 

Currently, we are looking for a Postdoctoral Researcher to join the group under the HARMONY project.

 

Job Duties

The job duties will be the following:

  • Develop, characterise, test and validate biosensors based on cell receptors for marine biotoxins.
  • Produce and/or isolate cell receptors, purify and characterise.
  • Integrate cell receptors in microfluidic devices.
  • Optimise and full characterise biosensor performance (e.g., LOD, LOQ, dynamic range, matrix effect).
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams with expertise in biosensors, marine biotoxins, microsystems and microfabrication technology, surface chemistry, and microfluidics.
  • Produce several technical and scientific documentation as well as day-to-day management of work planning.
  • Write or help writing original research publications and reports.

 

Mandatory Qualifications

 

Education

  • PhD in Biology, Biochemistry or similar fields.

 

Experience and Technical Skills

  • Experience in Escherichia coli (and others) gene edition through plasmid or expression vector for protein production.
  • Experience in the isolation and characterisation of proteins and cell receptors, both isolated and integrated in membranes (e.g., extracellular vesicles).
  • Experience in the development of biosensors (i.e., electrochemical and/or optical) using cell receptors, enzymes and other bioligands.
  • Experience in surface and analytical chemistry.

 

Other Valued Skills

  • Experience in microfluidic device design, fabrication and modelling.
  • Experience in the use of nanomaterials to enhance biosensors’ properties.
  • Experience in toxic microalgae cultivation and biotoxin characterisation.

 

Personal Skills

  • Strong motivation to work both independently and as part of a team in an interdisciplinary environment, with the ability to pay close attention to details and to meet deadlines.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Highly organised and dynamic.
